Wildcats News · Kenton Middle School wrestlers place 10th at Allen East Tournament


6 Kenton grapplers competed at the Allen East Mustang Junior High Tournament against 15 teams from the area. The wrestlers were placed in pools based off weight criteria, the winners of the pools competed for top placing while the second place pool finishers battles for the remaining spots on the podium.

 JJ Manns was able to win the 142-pound class while pinning his way through the pool against wrestlers from Liberty Benton, Crestview and Wapakoneta. In the finals pool JJ lost a tight battle with Levi Nichols of Allen East 16-12. But in the next round he was able to pin Layton Blankemeyer of Columbus Grove. Based on the tie breaking criteria JJ was awarded 1st place.

  Karson Davis, 98-pounds, went 4-1 on the day earning the 4th place award. After losing his first match 1-4 against Will Pask of Liberty Benton, Karson was able to pin his next 2 opponents in the pool. Gaige Flores of Elmwood and Gracen Romero of McComb. Karson won tight matches in the final pool against Jackson Marks, Crestview and Liam Vieira of Ada, 9-2 and 6-4 respectively.

  Matthew Handell, 205# class, garnered a fourth place finish by way of pin fall victory over Blake Hahn of Lima City at the :43 mark of the first period. Matthew went on to lose close matches to Maddyx Vermillon of Liberty Benton and Ben Hopkins of Wapakoneta.

 Also earning points for the Wildcats were 7th graders Klayton Schlegel 160 pound, Evan Elliott 128, and Aiden Ritchie wrestling up in the 172-pound class.
