Boys Middle School Wrestling, Middle School Wrestling · KMS Wrestlers take 5th at Triad Invitational


Kenton brought only four active wrestlers to do battle at the 10 team Triad Invitational.  All four Wildcats were able place in the top 2 of their respective weight division. Boasting an incredible 16-2 win loss record, Kenton posted 112.5 team points to earn the placement. The short handed team has faced unusual adversity this year and has shown impeccable resolve while battling everything with a positive attitude.

Karson Davis led the Cats with a perfect 5-0 record with 5 pins. Davis, competing in the 98 pound division, started the day with an early pin fall of  Haygen Philips of South Vienna. In the second and third rounds  Karson pinned BJ Tare of Celina and Kyleigh Elfrink of Madison Plains. Next Davis pinned Miami East Vandal Garret Fine after at the 47 second mark of the 3rd period. In the finals match  Davis was matched up with undefeated Keaton Harding of West Jefferson, after falling behind by a 9-0 margin Davis was able to reverse his opponent and get the pin in dramatic fashion earning the First Place medal.

Also earning Kenton a First Place was 8th Grader JJ Manns. Competing in the 150 pound division, Manns was able to go 4-0 with wins over Ian Mullins of Celina 9-7, Russell House of Triad 17-6,  Chris Smith of Miami East 4-1 and Ayden Cordle of West Jefferson by pin. JJ was able to rack up 14 takedowns on the day.

Competing in the 205# division, Kenton’s Mathew Handell went 3-1 on the day. Mathew started with a second period pin of Celina’s Isaac Posada. Handell then lost to Teion Stammam Of Triad 12-1. Handell finished with victories over Carter Ly of Celina 9-2 and Luke Boyd of West Jefferson by pin fall.

Rounding out the out numbered Kenton squad was 7th grader Evan Elliott who finished 4-1 and in Second place of the 128 pound class. Elliott lost his only match by pin to top seeded Cayden Bateman of West Jefferson. Elliott got wins by pin over Thomas Hingston of South Vienna, Star Fogt of Miami East and Lyndsey Walborn of Triad. Elliott also tech falled Celina’s Anthony Nuding. Elliott racked up 12 near falls on the day.
