The Kenton girls tennis team beat Bluffton Wednesday night 3-2. “The girls came out and played very smart tennis today and were aggressive. There were many points that went to deuce across the board and we were able to win overall by winning those points,” says Coach Katie Isenbarger. In singles play, Kenton’s first singles Mykaela Schriber bested Bluffton’s Erin Hotmire 6-3, 6-2. Kelsey Flowers of Kenton topped Olivia Barnes 6-4, 6-0 at the second singles position. Third singles of Kenton Lily Osborn played a long match that she ended up falling to Bluffton’s Raychel Avila 7-6(5), 6-2. The first doubles team of Elizabeth Heintz and Abigail Hartshorn from Kenton won 6-4, 6-1 over Bluffton’s Emma Klinger and Caity Zimmerman. Kenton’s second doubles of Abigail Hartshorn and Kayce Sherman lost a close match in a super tiebreaker against Bluffton’s Pearl Lweandowski and Julia Smallcombe 4-6, 6-3, (11-9). “Lily played very well tonight, and her second set scores do not show how close her games were. She was at deuce at almost every game, and was making some great adjustments moving her opponent. We are proud of the progress she is making this season and will begin putting together games right at tournament time. Second doubles played very aggressive at the net and lost a close one. We are scheduled to play Bluffton at home next week and look forward to the rematch.” Kenton hosts Ottawa-Glandorf Thursday.
